Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington the following year, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News a year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was appointed the top reporter for the congressional section. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was the former chairman for Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her role in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered at the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during both the administrations of Ronald Reagan. She reported on a variety of notable stories, including arms control the tax reform for the budget and the Iran-contra saga. She traveled extensively in the company of the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
